HOUSE WARMING
30" x 40" oil on canvas
"House Warming" touches on how women are seen as objects in society. Through the transformation of a woman into a house, I illustrated the complex dynamics of her role as the pillar of her family, but also the challenges she is destined to face as a mother and wife. The ironic title suggests that despite the love and support the woman gives to others she feels estranged and stuck in her own body. She (the house) is very warm and inviting but only to others. Her expression of struggle is represented through the act of ripping off her head. She doesn’t want to sit on a plot of land to only care for others, but, alas. She is just a house.
